I was called upon by Bloomberg's Taiwan office to rework and reprint an existing English-language magazine article for our Chinese customers, mainly because of my time designing Bloomberg Markets Japan magazine. Note that not only do I not speak Japanese, I also do not speak Chinese, but because of my experience with setting Kanji type, I was asked to give it a try. It was actually not at all like working with a Japanese character set, but I worked through the technical hurdles to deliver the final layout on time to Taiwan. It was an interesting challenge, both in terms of design and technical hurdles. Because of the time difference and language barrier, applying edit changes proved particularly daunting.
