As Bloomberg Markets Japan Magazine slowly faded out of existence in late 2009, I took on even more prepress imaging responsibilities for the domestic edition of Bloomberg Markets Magazine. Being the resident Photoshop whiz, the Art Director asked me on many occasions to enhance ("We don't alter any images here," he slyly suggested) the photography used for the covers and feature stories. Here, I've animated the before and after images to give you an idea of the type of image manipulation I performed on a regular basis. Some are subtle changes; some are dramatic. And all were done with the photographer's blessing, since occasionally the chosen photograph -- for the cover especially -- was not quite ready for publication without a delicate application of the aforementioned enhancements. Sometimes many variations were tried out and rejected, so it was always an evolving process that would involve dozens of hours of revisions before the final image was approved.
